About Dr. Toomer
I’m Dr. Andrea Toomer, a New Orleans native and specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation. I’m a proud graduate of Mount Carmel High School and LSU School of Medicine, and I completed my residency at Carolinas Rehabilitation in Charlotte, North Carolina before returning home to care for patients in my community.
One of the most gratifying parts of my work is helping patients recover from disabling pain and spinal injuries, and guiding them toward restored movement and independence. I focus on treating conditions such as brain and spinal cord injury, and I have a special interest in spasticity—often caused by stroke, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, or spinal cord injury.
I’m especially excited about the advances being made in spasticity treatment. Through Botox injections, oral medications, and intrathecal baclofen pumps, we’re now able to dramatically improve mobility and comfort for patients who previously had limited options. As a faculty educator for Medtronic’s Neuromodulation division, I train physicians nationwide on intrathecal baclofen therapy, and many come to Culicchia Neurological Clinic to study these techniques in person.
In addition, I represent the Southeast region on the National Medical Advisory Board for Kindred, the country’s largest inpatient rehabilitation network.
My little something extra
To me, it’s not just about helping patients live—it’s about improving their quality of life.
