American Heart Association (AHA) Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) COURSES

LCMC Health Clinical Education and Professional Development offers BLS, ACLS, and PALS Provider courses.

Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS Provider):

The goal of the Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Course is to prepare healthcare professionals to respond effectively to cardiac arrest and other life-threatening emergencies. Participants will develop the skills needed to promptly recognize cardiac arrest, perform high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), provide effective ventilations, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED). The course emphasizes effective individual and team-based response in both in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS):

The goal of the Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Provider Course is to improve outcomes for adult patients with cardiac arrest and other cardiopulmonary emergencies through provider training. The ACLS Provider course is designed for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies. Through didactic instruction and active participation in simulated cases, the students will enhance skills and clinical decision-making abilities for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiopulmonary arrest, acute arrhythmia, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS):

The goal of the Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Course is to improve the quality of care to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes. In the PALS course, students will reinforce and enhance their skills in the treatment of pediatric arrest and peri arrest patients through active participation in a series of simulated pediatric emergencies. These simulations are designed to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, and effective team resuscitation dynamics.
