Touro’s inclusion on this list situates them as not only a premier birthing hospital in Louisiana but also a regional leader.
LCMC Health is immensely proud to announce that Touro has been recognized on Newsweek’s list of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals 2025. The full award list, which was announced today, can be viewed on Newsweek.com.
“We are thrilled to be recognized by Newsweek for the high-quality, compassionate, maternity care provided at Touro,” said Dr. Christopher Lege, Touro President and Chief Executive Officer. “For over a century Touro has been known to locals as the place ‘where babies come from,’ and it is an honor to be recognized at a national level among top hospitals across the country for our commitment to patient care.”
High-quality maternity care, provided from pregnancy through birth and postpartum, is key to the long-term health of newborns and women who give birth. Given that maternity care is a major component of healthcare, Newsweek and Statista, the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider, have partnered to identify America’s Best Maternity Hospitals in 2025. In a state where maternal and infant mortality rates consistently rank highest among the nation, Touro’s work in this space is even more critical in ensuring infants and their mothers are safe and healthy.
The America’s Best Maternity Hospitals 2025 ranking awards the leading hospitals for maternity care in the U.S. based on:
Hospital Quality Metrics: Indicators relevant to maternity care were considered.
Patient Experience Surveys: Publicly available data from patient surveys was used to analyze the overall patient experience in the hospital.
Nationwide Online Survey: Healthcare professionals and hospital managers with knowledge about maternity processes e.g., neonatal and perinatal doctors, nurses, and midwives, were asked to recommend leading maternity hospitals in the U.S.
A trusted source for health care in the New Orleans area for over 170 years, Touro has become one of the region’s premier birthing hospitals. Touro’s commitment to improving maternal and infant health outcomes for our community is evidenced by their recent Birth Ready+ designation by the Louisiana Department of Health’s Louisiana Perinatal Quality Collaborative. Additionally, their Family Connects program, which provides free in-home visits to new mothers and their infants, shows their commitment to patient care beyond delivery- providing comprehensive postpartum support and connection to community resources.
“Maternity care is a complex specialty, especially in the New Orleans region. We care for a significant number of high-risk patients who are often experiencing conditions such as hypertension, heart disease, and obesity,” explains Dr. Stacey Holman, OB/GYN and Touro Women & Children’s Services Medical Director. “Patient safety and quality care is our top priority at Touro. This recognition is the result of our commitment to implementing evidence-based best practices and improving maternal health. Every mother and every baby in our community deserve this level of care and we are proud to provide this at Touro.”
