LCMC Health and its hospitals are continuing to support our communities this holiday season with a systemwide Holidays with Heart campaign. Established to raise money and boost food donations for Second Harvest Food Bank, this campaign also includes several of our hospitals hosting toy drives and other holiday initiatives to help spread joy across our city.
Last month, LCMC Health launched our partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank to help meet their high demand during the holiday season. Please visit no-hunger.org for a full list of preferred food items. Food donations boxes will remain set up in the following hospitals until Dec. 12:
Lakeside Hospital, 4700 S I-10 Service Rd. W, Metairie, LA 70001
Lakeview Hospital, 95 Judge Tanner Blvd., Covington, LA 70433
East Jefferson General Hospital, 4200 Houma Blvd., Metairie, LA 70006
Manning Family Children’s, 200 Henry Clay Ave., New Orleans, LA 70118
New Orleans East Hospital, 5620 Read Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70127
Touro, 1401 Foucher St., New Orleans, LA 70115
University Medical Center, 2000 Canal St., New Orleans, LA 70112
In addition to LCMC Health’s partnership with Second Harvest, many of our hospitals are organizing their own giveaways and celebratory events:
East Jefferson General Hospital and Lakeside Hospital both participated in Be a Santa to a Senior, which adopts senior citizens in nursing homes, assisted livings and hospices around the Greater New Orleans area and provides them with holiday gifts on their wishlist. Together, they were able to collect 370 gifts.
Lakeview Hospital has been collecting gifts for infants, children and teens, as well as seniors residing in assisted living facilities, in support of St. Tammany Project Christmas. Tomorrow, Dec. 5, is the last day to drop off an unwrapped gift to the hospital. They will also be hosting their annual Santa Breakfast this Saturday, Dec. 6, in partnership with the Youth Service Bureau. More information and tickets can be found here.
LCMC Health’s corporate office also participated in Be a Santa to a Senior, helping gather nearly two hundred gifts for seniors in our area.
Manning Family Children’s has rescheduled its 4th annual Holiday Parade to this Sunday, Dec. 7 at 12:30 p.m., starting at the French Market with an extended route through Downtown. Additionally, their conference center has been transformed into the Candy Cane Clinic, a festive place for patients and their families spending their holidays in the hospital. Families of patients can select from donated toys to find the perfect gift for their child and their siblings. Community members can support by shopping their wish list here or dropping off items in person on Saturday, Dec. 13 from noon to 4 p.m. at the hospital.
New Orleans East Hospital (NOEH) is excited to support the 7th annual Jingle on the Boulevard parade in New Orleans East on Saturday, Dec. 20 at noon. After the parade, community members are invited to bring their children for photos with Santa at the hospital from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. NOEH will also host a holiday craft fair in their lobby on Dec. 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., where all are welcome to come shop local for the holidays.
Touro is partnering with Ozanam Inn to collect new toys, clothes and books for newborns and kids up to 14 years old. This toy drive will collect items until Dec. 10, and donations can be dropped off at the hospital’s Human Resources office on Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
University Medical Center (UMC) participated in Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program, which provides Christmas gifts to children in need by pairing them with anonymous donors. UMC’s staff was able to donate gifts to sixty kids.
West Jefferson Medical Center’s (WJMC) ongoing food drive with local non-profit Gladewaves will accept donations at the hospital and all WJMC clinic locations starting until Dec. 10. The only accepted food items are: flour, sugar, condensed milk, mini marshmallows, Idaho instant mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie filling, Stouffers or Pepperidge Farms stuffing, 2 lb. bags of rice, cans of sweet potatoes, canned cranberry sauce, instance ice tea or lemonade, nutmeg, salt, pepper, canned corn, canned green beans, canned green peas, brownie or cake mix and icing.
