About Dr. Varnado

I specialize in Family Medicine and Obesity Medicine. I became a medical physician because as I grew up in post Katrina New Orleans, I began to learn and understand the role primary care doctors played in building healthy and prosperous communities.  I chose Family Medicine because I enjoy learning the stories and journeys of my patients, while collaborating to prevent disease and improve their overall quality of life. I take pride in helping people transition through and navigate a multitude of important stages and moments of their lives. I enjoy that my specialty allows me to  use my medical knowledge and experiences to connect with patients in different contexts, from being an educator to an encourager.

My patients can count on me to provide extraordinary care because throughout my medical training I have learned to become a strong patient advocate and am diligent in ensuring my patients have access to the best level of care. I am intentional in learning the personal goals, culture and resources available to my patients so I can best serve them and create strategies to optimize their health.

My little something extra: I’m a basketball fanatic, and the New Orleans Pelicans’ number one fan.I played basketball and other sports throughout my life, and the lessons I learned surrounding resilience, leadership and team-building have definitely helped me better collaborate with and serve my patients.
