Patient safety

At Touro, patient safety is a top priority. Our carefully developed procedures are in place for your well-being. It is our hope that patients will work with us to uphold these safety procedures and maintain a safe environment for all visitors. We invite you to alert us with any questions or concerns regarding safety in the hospital.

You can help prevent medical errors by:

  • Familiarizing yourself with your personal medications. Speak up if you do not recognize medications you are given
  • Make sure all of your doctors know about all of your medications and allergies
  • Be sure that you can read and understand any prescription your doctor writes for you
  • Request medical information in terms you can understand

When it comes to hospital stays, we encourage patients to get to know the doctors and nurses they work with. All Touro employees wear a photo ID badge while on duty. If you're not sure who someone is or what their role is, please ask.

Also make sure your doctors wash their hands before performing any procedures. Clean hands are key to preventing the spread of infection.

Upon being discharged from Touro, be sure to ask all care providers to explain the treatment plan you will maintain at home.

If you feel your concern about patient care or safety has not been adequately addressed by Touro, you may contact the Office of Quality Monitoring of the Joint Commission by using the online complaint form on www.jointcommission.org, or by sending an email to complaint@jointcommission.org.
