Touro Neurologic Physical Therapy Residency

Mission Statement

The mission of the Touro Infirmary Physical Therapy Neurologic residency program is to provide participants with an advanced level of clinical training and education to enable them to provide high quality, evidenced-based neurological physical therapy services to improve the quality of life of patients in their communities. Additionally, the program will enable them to take a leadership role and to become a resource in neurological physical therapy for physical therapists in their community's following completion.

Program Structure and Curriculum

The Touro Neuro PT Residency is 13 months in length starting in July of each year. The resident will rotate through 4 settings along the continuum of care within Touro Infirmary including our Certified Primary Stroke Center in acute care, CARF accredited spinal cord and brain injury inpatient rehab units and lastly neuro outpatient rehabilitation multidisciplinary clinic. The residency's didactic content is primarily provided through the Medbridge NCS Prep program but is supplemented with an extensive curriculum of web based and in person educational objectives. Lastly, the resident will receive 1 on 1 mentoring in each setting by mentors with extensive experience in their respective settings and board certifications in neurologic physical therapy.

Application Procedure and Timeline

  • Applications for the residency are accepted from early January through February 28th each year. Experienced physical therapists and new graduates are encouraged to apply. The residency accepts applications through the Residency and Fellowship Physical Therapy Centralized Application Service (RF-PTCAS). Visit RF-PTCAS for specifics on required application materials and to begin the application process.
  • Interviews will be scheduled throughout the month of February and early March and offer will be made to the applicant by the end of March.

Admission Requirements

  • Graduate of DPT physical therapy program
  • Licensed in the state of Louisiana including provisional while awaiting board exam results, failure to receive licensure within 3 months of start date will result in dismissal from program.
  • Current CPR certification
  • APTA and ANPT membership
