About Dr. Smith

I was first drawn to a career in medicine due to my interest in global health. I came to New Orleans thinking that I would become an Infectious Disease specialist. However, I met Dr. Norman McSwain, the namesake of our Trauma center, during my first week of medical school. He showed me that a career in Trauma Surgery was an enticing blend of General Surgery, Critical Care, Internal Medicine, and Emergency Medicine. I was hooked immediately and I have not looked back since. As the only Level 1 trauma center in the New Orleans area, we are a beacon for our injured patients from the surrounding area. We not only provide exceptional trauma care but we also perform cutting edge research that improves the lives of trauma patients across the world.

My little something extra
My husband and I are both transplants from the Northeast. We met at Jacques Imos restaurant and got married in the French Quarter three years later. We love the people, the food, and culture of this vibrant city. We quickly decided that we want to make our lives here and raise our family in New Orleans.
