About Dr. Elder

I am a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine in the Section of Emergency Medicine at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans and Co-Director of the Division of EMS and Disaster Medicine. I serve as Medical Director for Emergency Management at University Medical Center and LCMC Health, EMS Medical Director for St. Tammany Fire District No. 1 (Slidell Fire), Chairman of the Louisiana Emergency Medical Services Certification Commission, and a board member of the National Registry of EMTs.

Previously, I served as Director and Medical Director of New Orleans EMS, Medical Director of the New Orleans Fire Department, Chief Medical Officer for the New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, and Police Surgeon for the New Orleans Police Department. I earned my medical degree from LSU School of Medicine and began my EMS career during my Emergency Medicine residency at LSU Health Sciences Center. I am board certified in Emergency Medicine with subspecialty certification in emergency medical services through the American Board of Emergency Medicine. My professional interests include advanced airway management and training, time-sensitive prehospital care, and improving survival from cardiac arrest.

A Louisiana native, I have been an LSU Football season ticket holder for nearly 20 years.
