Mary T. Killackey, MD

About Dr. Killackey

From an early age, I was drawn to the life-changing impact of medicine — a field that blends science, compassion, and service. I chose transplant surgery because it represents the height of what medicine can offer: restoring life through innovation, precision, and the profound generosity of organ donation. It’s a field that requires technical excellence, deep collaboration, and constant dedication. Over time, my passion has grown to include training the next generation of surgeons and creating an environment where faculty, students, and trainees can thrive. I believe every patient deserves meticulous, compassionate care. As a transplant surgeon, I know that extraordinary outcomes rely not just on skill, but on trust, teamwork, and systems that support excellence across the care team. Whether in the OR or leading a department, my goal is always the same: to ensure patients feel safe, supported, and receive the highest quality care possible.

My little something extra
My little something extra is staying connected to the spirit of New Orleans. Whether it’s riding with the Krewe of Iris during Mardi Gras, collecting and supporting local art, or spending time with my family. Those moments keep me grounded and inspired. They remind me of the importance of joy, culture, and community — the same values I try to bring into my work every day.
