Lung Nodule Diagnosis

Advanced lung nodule diagnosis

Clearer answers for suspicious lung nodules

A lung nodule is a small spot or growth in the lung that may be found during a screening exam or imaging test. While many nodules are not cancerous, some need further evaluation. At Touro, our advanced robotic-assisted bronchoscopy technology helps physicians investigate suspicious lung nodules with a minimally invasive biopsy procedure.

This approach gives our interventional pulmonology team another way to carefully navigate the airways and reach nodules that may be difficult to access with traditional bronchoscopy.

What is robotic-assisted bronchoscopy?

Robotic-assisted bronchoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure used to examine and biopsy lung nodules. During the procedure, your physician guides a thin, flexible tube through the natural airways of the lung to collect a tissue sample for testing.

The tissue is then reviewed by pathology to help determine whether the nodule is benign, cancerous, or needs additional follow-up.

How this technology can help

Advanced robotic-assisted bronchoscopy may help our team:

  • Evaluate suspicious lung nodules found on CT scans or lung cancer screening exams
  • Obtain tissue samples without an incision
  • Reach nodules located deeper in the lung
  • Support earlier diagnosis and treatment planning when cancer is found
  • Coordinate next steps with a multidisciplinary team of specialists

Connected care from diagnosis to treatment

If your biopsy results require additional care, Touro brings together specialists in interventional pulmonology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, radiology, pathology, thoracic surgery, and supportive care. Your team works together to help guide you from diagnosis through treatment and follow-up.

Is robotic-assisted bronchoscopy right for me?

Your physician may recommend this procedure if imaging shows a lung nodule or other area that needs further evaluation. Talk with your pulmonologist or primary care provider about whether advanced lung nodule diagnosis may be appropriate for you.
