Our healthcare heroes have gone above and beyond to care for our community during this extraordinary time. Long hours, weeks without seeing their family members, and, unfortunately, an uncomfortable amount of loss.
Now more than ever, our healthcare workers need someone to help heal them from the emotional wounds that come with losing a large amount of patients in a short amount of time.
In steps LCMC Health's Medical Director for Care Transformation and Practicing Emergency Physician at University Medical Center, Dr. Jay Kaplan.
Dr. Kaplan has been doubling as an ER doctor to his patients and an emotional healer to his colleagues across the LCMC Health system. He has made rounds at all the hospitals to hold group sessions to motivate and encourage his colleagues through these trying times.
"It is okay if periodically you feel like you need to go in a closed room and cry. Just tell folks if they hear you crying not to worry. You're just having to let it go," advised Kaplan.
