The American Heart Association (AHA) has recognized East Jefferson General Hospital (EJGH) as a Gold Fit-Friendly Worksite. The award honors EJGH for making the health and wellness of its team members a priority and serving as an example of a healthy working environment.

“We are extremely honored and excited to be recognized by the American Heart Association’s initiative as a Gold Level Fit-Friendly Worksite,” said EJGH President and CEO Dr. Mark Peters. “Physical activity and employee wellness are important priorities here at EJGH and we encourage and applaud our employees for achieving and maintaining healthy lifestyles.”

As a gold-level member, East Jefferson General Hospital was recognized for offering employees physical activity support, increased healthy eating options at work, promoting a wellness culture, and embracing criteria as outlined by the American Heart Association in the areas of physical activity, nutrition, and culture.

EJGH has implemented a growing number of health-conscious initiatives for its team members including a tobacco-free policy, healthy vending options, discounted membership to the Wellness Center as well as ongoing stress management and weight loss programs.

The Fit-Friendly Worksites program serves as a catalyst for positive change in the American workforce by helping worksites make their employees’ health and wellness a priority.
