East Jefferson General Hospital earned four stars for the second consecutive term from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) when the organization released its much-anticipated Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings this past week.

EJGH outperformed all other area hospitals with its four stars and the measure places the institution among the top tier of the nearly 5,000 rated hospitals in the country, according to data released by CMS.

“This is not only an indicator of our success over the past year but of our continued delivery of clinical excellence,” said EJGH President and CEO Gerald Parton. “CMS provides us with some of the top metrics available in the healthcare community and I am pleased, yet not surprised, to see EJGH once again come out on top in our local market.”

The summary rating program, launched in April 2015, assigns hospitals a one- through five-star rating based on patient satisfaction and clinical metrics. The most recent update is based on HCAHPS survey data collected between Oct. 1, 2015, and Sept. 30, 2016.

EJGH is one of just two hospitals in the New Orleans area with four stars while three earned three stars and three hospitals earned two stars. The national average came in at just above three stars.
