Jefferson Parish Councilwoman Jennifer Van Vrancken, District 5, with the entire Jefferson Parish Council, offered an official proclamation at the March 22, 2017, council meeting, recognizing East Jefferson General Hospital’s Foundation and its team members for their distinguished efforts through the “Fund the Fleet” campaign.

Van Vrancken presented EJGH Director of EMS Mike Guillot and Senior Vice President of Community Affairs Valerie Englade with a plaque commemorating the proclamation during the Wednesday morning council meeting.

“Fund the Fleet” is part of the Uniteam Campaign of the EJGH Foundation, where EJGH team members make financial donations that directly impact the hospital and the care it provides the community. For 2017-19, team members will support the hospital’s current emergency management services by funding a pair of state-of-the-art ambulances.

“More than anything, we appreciate the generosity of our team members,” said Guillot. “The addition of two new ambulances will greatly increase the efficiency of the area’s emergency response operations. The two new vehicles will also allow us to meet the growth of our community.”

“EJGH employees are so dedicated to improving healthcare, they dug deep into their own pockets to buy these two new life-saving ambulances,” added Van Vrancken. “That is true sincerity and selflessness. In a time, when our first responders are often under siege, it’s also a tremendous show of support. I wanted to ensure we share this story as a way to inspire others in our community to be of service to their neighbors.”

All resources for the ambulances will come entirely from funds donated and raised by the employees of the hospital, as well as individuals in the community.

Two additional ambulances will help East Jefferson General Hospital:

  • Respond more rapidly to the 35,000 emergency calls received per year
  • Expand the number of emergency calls it can respond to
  • Expand coverage of community events
  • Ensure better safety for EMS technicians and patients
  • Keep the EJGH fleet more efficient with newer emergency vehicles that have top-of-the-line technology
