Cancer Care
Personalized Cancer Care, rooted in New Orleans values
A cancer diagnosis changes a lot, but it doesn’t change who you are. You’re a New Orleans resident. You’re special and unique. At LCMC Health, we care for the whole person, not just the cancer. We treat you like family with our general cancer care, because that’s the NOLA way.
With the latest and greatest in cancer care therapies and survivorship programs and support, we care for your unique needs as you walk your cancer journey so you can move past cancer and pass a good time.
How we detect and diagnose cancer
Diagnosis: Before treatment begins, we must identify your cancer and determine where it’s located. To do that, we use several tools. One of the most powerful is high-tech imaging. Depending on your situation, we may use CT or positron emission tomography, or PET scans, MRI, mammography, bone densitometry, X-ray, or ultrasound. Blood tests may help. A biopsy allows our experts to review suspicious cells.
Types of cancer we treat
No matter the cancer, we can find and treat it. Some of the cancers we care for include:
- Bladder
- Blood
- Bone
- Brain
- Breast
- Cervical
- Colorectal
- Endocrine
- Esophageal
- Kidney
- Liver
- Ovarian
- Prostate
- Skin
- Uterine
- Vaginal

Cancer treatment options
Cancer care has made huge advances in recent years. When a new treatment becomes available, LCMC Health offers it. Frequently used treatments include:
Chemotherapy—Medication taken by mouth or IV finds and destroys cancerous cells.
Radiation Therapy—High-energy radiation focuses on and kills cancerous cells.
Surgery—Cancerous cells get removed in the operating room. This may be performed with robotic assistance. Afterward, other treatment may follow to ensure no cancer remains.
By turning to LCMC Health, you aren’t limited to currently available therapies. We proudly participate in clinical trials. As a result, you have access to new therapies that offer great promise.
