Brain Injury Specialty Program

New Orleans Brain Injury Rehabilitation & Therapy

The CARF Brain Injury Specialty Program at Touro Rehabilitation Center is specially-designed to provide therapy, education, resources, and support to patients and their caregivers. A brain injury, whether the result of trauma, anoxia, tumor, or other neurologic disorder, can affect an individual’s mobility, memory, communication, balance, and, ultimately, independence.

Brain Injury Services Team Approach

Touro's patient-centered program develops individual treatment plans to address physical, cognitive, behavioral, and social interaction skills, while working toward achieving realistic educational, vocational, social and/or leisure goals. A dedicated treatment team is committed to providing individualized care to improve the quality of life for adolescents and adults following a brain injury by increasing function, encouraging independence, and facilitating a safe return to the community.

Brain Injury Education & Support

Education and training are key components of the brain injury specialty program. Preparing patients, caregivers and families for their new roles, requires an interdisciplinary rehab team of educators and support personnel.

Family Education Day

Brain Injury Family Education Day is held the second Monday of each month in M6 from 9am-3:30pm. Call 504.897.8560 or Email BrainInjuryProgram@LCMCHealth.org

Support Group

Our Neuro Support Group for patients and caregivers who have had a stroke or brain injury is held on the first Tuesday of each month in the M6 Conference Room from 3:30pm-4:30pm. It is free and open to the public as a resource and support system following a stroke or brain injury.

Peer Mentoring

The Brain Injury Program has peer mentoring that takes place weekly. Patients have the opportunity to speak with someone who has successfully reintegrated into the community following a brain injury.

Recreation Baseball League

BISCIS is a baseball league for people with a spinal cord injury brain Injury or any other neurological diagnosis. During the season the league plays every Thursday night at the Fly in Audubon Park. For more information email Linda.Brown@LCMCHealth.org
