National recognition signifies advanced Information Technology for patient safety and clinical improvements.

East Jefferson General Hospital has been named a 2014 Most Wired hospital by the American Hospital Association and Hospitals and Health Networks for its advancements in Information Technology adoption. This national distinction is based on the results of the independent Most Wired Survey of hospitals and health systems and mandates Most Wired hospitals to achieve advanced benchmark capabilities in all of the following four categories: Technology Infrastructure, Business and Administrative Management, Clinical Quality and Safety (Inpatient and Outpatient) and Clinical Integration (Ambulatory/Physician/Patient/Community).

“The Most Wired award distinction shows that East Jefferson continues to move forward every day with one clear mission – to improve the patient care and safety we provide our community,” says Mark J. Peters, MD, EJGH President, and CEO. “To be on the cutting edge of technology requires a forward-thinking commitment. We have acquired the technology needed to advance our ability to provide excellent care and have a team of experts on-site to implement and monitor its development. At every level of our organization, we are proud to have the leadership in place to stay ahead of the curve.”

Health Care’s Most Wired Survey, conducted between January 15 and March 15, asked hospitals and health systems nationwide to answer questions regarding their IT initiatives. Respondents completed 680 surveys, representing 1,900 hospitals, or more than 30 percent of all U.S. hospitals. Only 375 organizations met the Most Wired criteria.

“The Most Wired data shows that shared health information allows clinicians and patients to have the information they need to promote health and make the most informed decisions and treatments,” says Rich Umbdenstock, president, and CEO of the American Hospital Association. “Hospitals, their clinicians, and their communities are doing tremendous work to enhance their IT systems in ways that support care and delivery improvement, and patient engagement goals.”
