Ruby Brewer Named 2017 “Belle” at Annual Announcement Party

Congratulations to East Jefferson General Hospital Chief Nursing Officer Ruby Brewer who was named a 2017 Belle during the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) annual Belles and Beaus Announcement Party. The introductory event took place on Thursday, July 13, at the Shops at Canal Place.

Now in its 17th year, the Belles and Beaus program honors those who have made a major contribution to the fight against cancer. All those selected will be celebrated at the ACS’s 2017 Belles and Beaus Ball, held on Sept. 22 at Mardi Gras World. Money raised from the event will benefit the society’s Patrick F. Taylor Hope Lodge, which provides overnight accommodations to patients who come to the region for their cancer treatment.

With nearly 40 years of nursing dedication to her name, Brewer has served in nursing leadership roles at East Jefferson General Hospital since 2011, driving clinical excellence and superior standards, with EJGH being ranked the No. 1 hospital in the state of Louisiana. Also under Brewer’s guidance, EJGH was named a Four-Time Nursing Magnet Hospital, one of a handful in the nation to earn the honor.

This past year, Brewer earned the Nursing Administrator of the Year award by the Louisiana Nurses Foundation, recognizing her dedication to the profession. This commitment to quality also brought the hospital a No. 19 ranking in the country by CareChex in the overall care category, a rare four-star rating by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and an overall grade of “A” by the Leapfrog Group, the only one in the region to earn that mark.

Brewer began her career in nursing at the Good Shepherd Medical Center in Texas where she served for 22 years, working her way to Senior Vice President status before taking the same role at East Jefferson General Hospital. In 2013, the nursing veteran was named Chief Nursing Officer as well as Quality Officer at the Metairie-based healthcare institution.
