Nikki's Survivor Story

I found a lump in my breast, just in the shower. I went to go get it checked out and the same day I found out I was pregnant. The journey begins there. I went to the imaging center and they did the mammogram and found the lump. They said it was at least a stage two.

For me, that moment was a very devastating moment. It was a lot to take in, but the team at Touro caring for me have been amazing. Every step of the way they have reassured me.

Dr. Colfry said “this is not a death sentence anymore and you can have a healthy baby.” That moment where he reassured me that this is going to be okay, and I can safely have my baby, was everything for me.

I had my oncologist, surgical oncologist, my OB, and my high-risk OB all collaborating, meeting on my behalf to make sure I was receiving the best care.

My doctors’ bedside manner has been incredible. My doctors know me, they treat with a personal touch, and that for me, is second to none. That’s what delighted me about it. They took any types of fear or trepidation that I had about my situation, and they have been there of me and with me. They treat the whole person. It goes far beyond just my health, it goes to my wellbeing, my mental health, my physical health, and even spiritual health.

Together for her means taking care of the woman, wholly, like my doctors have taken care of me. Together for her, they’ve been together for me.
