Increasing organ transplant access
Tulane Transplant Institute has been selected by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to participate in the Increasing Organ Transplant Access Model which aims to increase access to life-saving transplants for patients living with end-stage renal disease and reduce Medicare expenditures. This model focuses on providing incentives to transplant hospitals to increase transplantation.
Increasing organ transplant access
Living donor criteria
- 18 years of age or older
- Healthy individual free of renal, infectious and medical co-morbidities
- Individual willing to donate
- Individual free from inducements and coercion
- Understands may decline to donate at any time
- Be able to comprehend donation process and give informed consent
- Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR)> 80ml/min
Kidney transplant waitlist criteria
- Renal failure and/or renal replacement therapy (dialysis)
- Irreversible chronic renal failure with Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) < 20 ml/min
