Understanding cancer is key, especially upon your diagnosis. Many people
search for information, and having the right amount and type of information
is important, especially when making treatment decisions. Touro recognizes
that you need reliable cancer-specific information. Being newly diagnosed
with cancer means you’ll need to educate yourself. Instead of searching
all over the internet, we’ve made things easy for you.
We offer you the following ways to become informed:
Patient Resource Library: Our library is located on the 1st floor of Touro Infirmary in the Supportive
Cancer Care Center. Our library features many books and free brochures
about cancer. You can also access cancer-specific websites through our computer.
New Patient Orientation: You’ll meet with the Cancer Care Navigator, gather information on
cancer, and get your questions answered. You can schedule an orientation
session by calling Danielle McCullogh, RN, BSN at
504.210.4475.
Supporting our cancer center
Ensuring each patient receives the care they need, to lead their best life.
The Touro Infirmary Foundation funds the development and execution of several
Supportive Cancer Care Programs within Touro’s Cancer Center. Support
groups, travel and lodging and co-pay assistance, are just a few ways
the Foundation provides resources to the patients that need it most. Each
patient’s cancer journey is unique. At Touro we care for the whole
person. Providing services beyond disease treatment, we are here to assist
patients in every step of their cancer journey.
American Cancer Society Grant for Transportation Assistance
Cancer patients undergoing treatment frequently require assistance getting
to and from facilities, often creating a financial and logistical burden.
That’s why the American Cancer Society has awarded a transportation
grant to Touro. These funds will be used to address the transportation
needs of cancer patients in New Orleans.
Patient Charity Care and Co-Pay Assistance
Patients having financial difficulties may be eligible for assistance through
payment programs offered through the Foundation.
Cancer Patient Support Groups
The Foundation provides funding to Touro Cancer Support Groups throughout
the year including a celebration for National Cancer Survivor’s Day.
Hotel Discount Program
The Foundation provides discounts for patients and families at local hotels,
including accommodations for specialized recliners for breast cancer patients.

Cancer Clinical Trials
At Touro, we’re constantly working on new regimens and medicines
that we test through research called clinical trials. Our experienced
professional clinical research team conducts cancer research, and we offer
these clinical trials to patients are interested and who are a good fit
for the trials. If you would like to be part of a clinical trial as part
of your treatment, check with your doctor to see if that’s an option for you.

families with valuable community resources that are available to them.
Smoking Cessation Program
Quitting smoking might be the hardest thing you ever do, but very few things
have as many positive results in pulmonary and cardiac health as successful
smoking cessation. We know you know how bad it is for you—and we
know it’s hard to quit on your own. That’s why we’ve
designed a program to help you break the habit. Click the link below to
learn more about our program.
